Dear CSHA Staff – I recently had the pleasure of attending the Get Motivated Seminar in Denver (Thanks Dennis & Victoria).

I wanted to share with you some of what I learned. I saw the following speakers: (In Order) Dr. Robert Schuller, General Colin Powell, Laura Bush, Phil Town, Tamara Lowe, Terry Bradshaw, James Smith, Zig Ziglar, Rudy Giuliani, T Harv Eker and John Elway.

Dr. Robert Schuller did not give a sermon and he was surprisingly very funny and not afraid to tell a somewhat crud joke. He tells a joke: A Church is visited by a Bishop who is bound and determined to give what’s for to the pastor and congregation. He gives a sermon putting down the church pastor and they way things are being done at this church. At the end of his sermon he is pretty proud of himself as he sits down. It is the pastor’s responsibility to close the service but before he does, he addresses the congregation. In tears, he says:

I can do wrong, you can do wrong, the Bishop can do wrong…

I can sin, you can sin, the Bishop can sin…

I can go to hell, you can go to hell, and the Bishop can go to hell!!!

Quotes: “you must make a commitment to be either a positive or negative thinking individual.” & “using the word impossible is not intelligent.”

General Powell surprised me the most. Every time I’ve seen him on TV he has nothing but the utmost military bearing. In this setting he proved to be very likeable, funny and relatable. He was my favorite speaker of the night. He wasn’t a very good student and in college he was barely getting a 2.0 GPA. His counselor highly suggested the military. He tells of the one thing he misses about being Secretary of State? The Plane! He went from having his own plane to being searched at the airport by a security guard who recognized him. He tells of his grandchildren not responding of to his emails anymore. ”Poppi, if you want to talk to us you have to text us now, or twitter us. No one uses email anymore”. He talks about Leadership as says things like “You’ll know you’re a good leader when your troops follow you – if only out of curiosity” and “Good followers get mad when they have to carry the weight of the bad followers. The hardest thing a leader has to do is tell the bad follower they will either be trained, moved or fired-and that is the greatest responsibility of a leader.”

Laura Bush spoke of her experiences in the White House during 911, about her husband and how he handled the constant criticism, and the importance of literacy.

Phil Town has made millions in the stock market. He was a Green Beret in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he gets off the airplane and he gets spit on by a long haired hippy who runs away. He’s still looking for that guy. He becomes a river guide in the Grand Canyon and takes a bunch of rich guys on a raft tour. He endangers them by putting them in harms way of a very dangerous rapid. Impending doom is on the way when something freakish happens and they end up being tossed in the air, out of the way of the falls and onto land. One gentleman thanks him for saving their lives and says he wants to reward him. He thinks he is going to get a big tip but instead, the person teaches him how to make money in the stock market.

Phil Town’s Investing Fundamentals

· Look at trend analysis - He recommends the sites Wealth Magazine and InvestTools’ (investor toolbox)

· Also do not invest emotionally the stock market is the most irrational place in the world the ideal investment position is good price valuation analysis. And minute mall minimal acceptable return on investment.

· He shoots for 15% per year is the minimal acceptable return on investment but he says the most important consideration is Margin of safetyalways by stocks 50% off retail.

· 80% of the money in the stock market is managed That means that 80% of the money in the stock market lumped in with mutual funds, 401(k)s and group held stocks.

· Insider trading — if insiders are buying it is a clue. If they’re selling that is a clue to.

Tamara Lowe is the author of Get Motivated. An ex drug addict and dealer and now a very impressive speaker. The basis of what she talks about can be understood here: http://images.wholeliving.com/images/content/web/pdfs/2009Q1/bs_0109_96_reach_your_goals2.pdf. Once you find out what drives you, then you can learn self-motivation. Recognize what motivational personality another person is and you will know how to motivate that person, whether it be your staff or children. Take a test and learn about your motivational personality here: http://www.getmotivatedbook.com/Test.aspx.

Quotes: “Only 2 opinions matter in life…yours and God’s.”; “Winners take action-losers make excuses.”; Get past your past. Got a sad story? Stand in line. Are you going to blame everyone else for the rest of your life?”

Terry Bradshaw is demented and a sexist, but also a very funny man that has a simple way of looking at things that men seem to appreciate. Only Terry would start a charitable organization like this: http://www.pigsforjesus.com/. He told many football stories and made fun of his teammates. He said he is booed in every city, including Pittsburgh. He doesn’t let stuff get him down. He is happy to be alive and every morning he sits on the edge of his bed, draws in air, opens his eyes, and says today is a great day because I am alive. He tells us to put a smile on your face, appreciate your life and keep it simple.

Quotes: “If you know the heart of yourself, you’ll never stay down.” “We get nothing in life if we don’t say thank you to someone else.”

“It is in the quiet crucible of our personal private sufferings that our noblest dreams are born and Gods greatest gifts are given, and often given in compensation for what we’ve been through.”- Wintley Phipps

James Smith has a real estate wealth system. He shows people how to invest in real estate, build up a retirement through self-directed IRAs, repair their credit, acquire foreclosures and commercial real estate, and reach financial security. Other than the sales pitch, he said positioning is everything and it’s what you do now that determines where you are in 10 years. Get in the game and position yourself to win. Your GPS is your soul and when you turn it on you will stop making mistakes. He suggests a minimum of 7 sources of income; don’t own anything in your own name; Improve your credit; Have a retirement plan; Get out of debt in 7-9 years plan; Bargain Investments: Tax Deeds/Liens, Foreclosures, Banks, HUD, VA, Auctions, Probate, DEA, Rentals, Neighborhoods, Networks, Expired Listings, FSBO, Tax Sales and US Marshall Sales. “Nobody will treat you better than you.”

Zig Ziglar has lot some of his memory and now has vertigo since an accident in the last year or two. His daughter now interviews him on stage and videos of past seminars are played for certain subjects. Zig says, Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions and we should thank those that had an impact on our lives. You can’t get anything that money will buy if you don’t have character. Always tell the truth and do a good job. If you don’t do your best people will recognize it. Hope is the foundational quality of all change. No hope, no change. Worry is interest paid before it’s due.

“Motivation is temporary. So are bathing and eating. But if you do both of them on a regular basis you will live longer and smell better. Motivation gets you going but habits get you there. Make motivation a habit and you’ll get there more quickly.”

Rudy Giuliani reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear; it is managing the fear and using it for a positive purpose. Think of fear as a healthy emotion because it warns us. You can overcome fear by relentless preparation; just like our firemen, police and military. Leaders have strong beliefs; Your heart and Soul are your beliefs; know what’s important to you; what you want to achieve; and set goals/objectives. Having strong ideas can affect a great deal. When it is time to lead, plan, organize yourself, set goals/have ideas, and be an optimist. Followers follow hope, dreams, and people who are trying to solve problems. Train yourself to be a problem solver and optimist. Vince Lombardi was once asked how do you feel about loosing the game? Vince responded by saying, “I didn’t loose the game. I just ran out of time.” You can come out of “loosing” by learning from it. Figure out why you failed and fix it.

T. Harv Eker (http://www.millionairemind.com/preview/mme) talks about the millionaire mind set. Your problem is not that your goals are too high. The problem is that your goals are too low, and you hit them. The right mind set is to have a goal to become a multi millionaire and more. Don’t be a victim. Victims blame, justify and complain. What you focus on expands. A complainer is a crap magnet. Don’t stand too close to a crap magnet. Your inner world creates your outer world. Have an open success mind. Are you growing or dying? It’s never the size of the problem, it depends on the size of you.

Your Thoughts determines your Feelings

Your Feelings cause your Actions

Your Actions create your Results

Think positive thoughts. Think to yourself, “I am bigger than any problem”. Your money and success blueprint is to program your subconscious for higher levels of success. It is time to act. So tame the fear. Practice acting in spite of your fear, uncertainty or inconvenience. What ever it is, just do it. One step in the right direction is worth 100 years of thinking about it.

John Elway! Bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla… I had no interest. I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan. Go Cowboys!
